We want to create a Community Council in Weston. We want to bridge the gap between residents and decision makers. We want to give people living in the area a way to work with public bodies (such as North Somerset Council), and to challenge them where necessary.
We are seeking people to get involved. Interested?
What is a Community Council?
We are volunteers who act as a bridge between citizens and public bodies. We find out what local issues people are concerned about and address them by working alongside decision makers, such as councillors.
We are open to everyone. We enable people with little experience of politics to get involved. We want to help people engage in political decision making and current issues without party politics.
We will take it on ourselves to promote and protect our local community identity. We will advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of local communities.
What are the aims of the Community Council?
- to work alongside North Somerset and Weston Town Council to increase the number and diversity of resident engagement with council agenda-setting, decision-making, monitoring and evaluation;
- to ensure that issues on the radar of the councils are not just those coming from the people with the ability to shout the loudest; and
- to improve levels of trust between the councils and residents by encouraging two way, meaningful, accessible communication.
We need people who care
You might think politics isn’t for you, but if you care about what happens to our community you are exactly who we need!
Proud to be local
This is a pilot project, and we need to decide on the geographic area we will represent – should it be the whole of Weston or smaller?
